Circulation Policy
Circulating Books:
Current students, faculty, and staff of Bay State College are welcome to check out any of the books in our circulating collection, which can be found using our online catalog. If a circulating book (NOT a reserve textbook) is available at a different campus than your own, please contact the library to discuss your options.
Individuals who would like to check out a book must have a valid Bay State College I.D., an active BSC email account, and sign the Library's Circulation Agreement. Students may check out up to ten books for a two week time period and renewed twice. Individuals who choose to check books out of the library are responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged library materials, as well as for returning items by their due date. The Library reserves the right to recall an item at any time. If an item is damaged, the Librarian will determine whether or not the book needs to be replaced, and the student will be charged accordingly.
When a book becomes 60 days overdue, it will be declared lost, and the borrower's student account will be charged the following:
- The replacement cost of the book
- A $25 processing fee
If the lost book is returned within one year of billing, the student will be refunded the cost of the book but not the processing fee.
Reserves: Items on reserve are available to students for up to two hours at a time, and may not leave the Library under any circumstances. If a reserved textbook is discovered to have been removed from the library, textbook borrowing privileges will be revoked. Books on reserve on one campus cannot be transferred to another campus. Students must sign out reserve items at the front desk with a current BSC ID. Only one reserve item can be used at one time.
Reference and Periodicals: Books held in the Library’s reference collection and Library periodicals may not leave the Library under any circumstances.
DVDs: DVDs can only be checked out of the Library by Faculty or staff. Students may view DVDs in the Library only.
