No matter where you land on the political spectrum, Democrat, Republican, or somewhere in the middle, there’s no denying that the political climate since the 2016 election has been, well let’s say, chaotic. In these chaotic times, it can feel like your voice isn’t being heard, or worse being wholly ignored. That feeling of discouragement is felt all around the country, and this upcoming midterm election is your chance to change that. Amplifying our collective voice can make a big difference in this upcoming election.

Our democracy is based on checks and balances, and the midterm elections are one of those checks. While it may not seem as flashy and high-profile as a presidential election, these midterm elections are no less critical. Your voice matters even more as the nation gears up for what many see as a referendum of the Trump presidency. Here’s what’s at stake on November 6th - 35 Senate seats, 36 gubernatorial seats, and 435 House seats in the House of Representatives are up for grabs this upcoming election. What that translates to is a governing majority for either the Democrats or the Republicans in almost every aspect of our government. As our political climate becomes more and more toxic, the more uninterested young voters like yourself become. A recent poll showed that only 26 percent of American adults between the ages of 18 and 29 stated that they would vote in the upcoming election.

As election day fast approaches it’s important not only to go out and vote on November 6th but also take time to educate yourself on the candidates, as well as the different measures that are on the ballot this year. Whether it’s placing limits on how many patients a Nurse can see in a hospital, or protecting transgender, and non-binary individuals right, there’s an issue out there for everyone. It’s now your turn to stand up and vote.
