What can you do with a Health Studies degree?

So you are looking around for health studies degree programs? The field of health sciences is broad, covering several disciplines that focus on providing healthcare to humans by applying engineering, mathematical, scientific, and technological concepts. Bay State College offers a health studies Associate degree program.

Once you have finished your health studies Associate degree, some possible careers are becoming a Medical Office Administrative Assistant, a Science Technician, a Laboratory Assistant, a Personal Care/Service Worker, or a Medical Records/Info Technician.

Health Studies Jobs & Career Outlook 

According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Outlook Handbook, “Employment of healthcare occupations is projected to grow 19 percent from 2014 to 2024, much faster than the average for all occupations . . . Healthcare occupations will add more jobs than any other group of occupations. This growth is expected due to an aging population and because federal health insurance reform should increase the number of individuals who have access to health insurance.” 

Required Skills

You should have the following skills if you want to start your career with a health studies degree.

  • Decision Making and Problem Solving: You should be able to assess patients’ health and determine the cause of their diseases. Accordingly, you should also be able to decide the best treatment approach for them.
  • Communication: Since you will have to interact with patients, your communication skills must be excellent. 
  • Detail Orientated: In the field of health sciences, details matter, so be sure to keep them in mind. Doing so will allow you to follow specific protocols and procedures correctly. 
  • Patience: Some of your patients will be suffering from severe medical conditions, so you must be extremely patient with them. Plus, you must be sympathetic and supportive. 

Bay State College offers three different Health Studies Associate Degree program tracks: Health Studies - Career Track, Health Studies - Advanced Track, and Certificate in Medical Assisting.
