Springtime in Boston

Image

Alexandra Keil, work study student in the International Student Affairs Office, does a great job helping the international students get adjusted, runs events for them and acts like a mentor. She wrote this blog post about the fun things to do in Boston this spring, and think it's a great reminder for all of us to get out and enjoy this great city. Thanks, Alex!

Finally, the sun is showing and the snow is starting to melt. After all these snowstorms and chaos, I bet we all look forward to a warmer climate!

Boston is full of fun things to do outside and I have listed a few of my favorites;.

Catch a Red Sox game!

Realistically, springtime in Boston means one thing: baseball season. When the season starts on April 6, the Red Sox will be in Philadelphia playing the Phillies.  But who wants to go to Philly, right? They'll be back at home on April 13 against Washington National.

Watch the Boston Marathon

The world’s oldest annual marathon will be held on Monday, April 20, this year. Although only a select few can actually race, the huge crowds of spectators cheering on the runners is half the fun. Get together with friends, stake out a place with a good view, and relax as the athletes cruise down Boylston Street.

Visit the Public Garden

It's the first botanical garden in the United States and before crowds of tourists arrive, take a stroll around the garden, buy an ice-cream, explore the statues and fountains, and get a look at the blossoming flowers and trees.

Paddle the Charles River

Now that the ice is starting to melt, it's time to get out and paddle around the Charles River. “Charles River Canoe and Kayak” rents out single and double kayaks for $15 and $19 per hour.

Rent a bike with HubWay

Enjoy your trip to work or school, run an errand or grab a bite.  The pedaling possibilities are endless!  Always wear a helmet and be aware of your ride time.

I wish you all a happy spring, with lots of sunshine and laughter!

Until next time,

Alex
