PTA Faculty Matt Penney Attends Event with Governor Charlie Baker
On Thursday, March 24, 2016, prominent leaders within the American Physical Therapy Association of MA (APTAMA) attended a fund raiser for Governor Baker (5th from L). Adjunct faculty member Matt Penney, PT, DPT, SCS, ATC (3rd from R), was one of the attendees advocating on behalf of our profession and patients. During the event, representatives of APTAMA were able to discuss some of the ways physical therapists and physical therapists assistants can save the commonwealth money and contribute to the effective treatment of a range of diagnoses. Matt McManus, PT (4th from L), Chair of the Public Policy Committee of APTAMA, reported "Governor Baker was very receptive to our talking points around patient access, cost containment, in the efficacy of physical therapy. Given the governors healthcare background, he's familiar with early recognition and management of non-surgical, non-emergent conditions and how physical therapy can be a viable option for many patients in the Commonwealth. Our chapter leaders were able to discuss how physical therapy can be a cost-effective alternative to expensive diagnostic imaging, pharmacology, and many elective procedures."
