Positive Energy - The Secret to Success

Image

It’s not very often you meet someone who fully embodies the beliefs, attitude and spirit of the company they work for. Megan Duclos, Entertainment Management alumna and Senior Event Marketing Manager at Alex and Ani, is one of those people.

In two words? Positive energy.

Megan, who commuted to class daily from Providence, graduated Bay State in 2009 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Entertainment Management.  She began her career as an Executive Assistant at Providence based agency Bella Consulting and Events, whose client list included the up and coming Alex and Ani brand.  As Alex and Ani grew and Bella Consulting became Seven Swords Media (an Alex and Ani owned Media Agency), Megan became an integral part of the company’s marketing efforts.

“Alex and Ani knew they wanted to do events around the country,” says Megan. “So we came up with this idea to do mobile bangle bars to sell product on site at events, and it’s proven to be such a perfect way to get people to engage with our brand.”

Utah, Colorado, to Florida, and everywhere in between, Megan and her team set up shop at some of the most popular and well-attended events in the country.  Their activation spaces at events don’t just sell their sought after bangles, but give visitors a chance to relax on their lounge furniture, spend time in their photo booth, or simply charge their phones.

“It’s been amazing to grow with the company,” she explains. “We’re certainly well-known now in the northeast, so I love going to the west coast to spread our message over there.”

And although Megan gets to travel the country and attend events like the Kentucky Derby and Sundance Film Festival, all this excitement goes hand in hand with a lot of hard work.  The planning that goes into these events is extensive and her ability to network with vendors across the U.S. is imperative.

The more we sat and talked with Megan, the clearer it became that her success is a product of her passion and positive attitude. But she also credits a solid foundation of industry knowledge that she received at Bay State College.

“I loved that Bay State was so one on one.  It’s super important for someone like me who can’t be just another number in a crowd. Dr. Patrick Preston, the department chair for Entertainment Management, is an incredible advocate for the program and his students. And the fact that the College requires internships does Bay State students such a favor when they go to apply to full-time jobs in the future.”

Along with all her responsibilities in her current job, Megan volunteers her time to be VP of Communications for the International Special Events Society and Co-Chair of Providence Free to Breathe.

“It’s about the meaning,” Megan explains as to why Alex and Ani has had such great success. “Every piece has a meaning which is why people connect to them so strongly.  As for me, I’m just happy to be part of it. Every time I think something we’re doing is so cool, something better comes along that makes me think ‘I have the best job ever!”

We couldn’t hope for much more for one of our graduates.

Congratulations on your success, Megan! And thanks for taking the time to catch up with us.
