Online Student Success - Healthcare Management

We all know that finding a job you enjoy is important to our overall well-being. Equally important is working for a company that supports your career development.  Luckily for online student Alison Sansone, her position at Massachusetts Institute of Technology Medical provides her with both.

Alison began her career as a secretary for the MIT Medical department almost 8 years ago. Since then, she has received a number of promotions and currently works as a supervisor for the administrative staff.  Supporting her professional development, Alison’s boss encouraged her to look into a degree in Healthcare Management so she could advance in the field.

Alison looked into different programs, but knew with her commute, a full-time job, and family, she couldn’t commit to sitting in a classroom during the free time she did have.

On her way home from work one day she heard about Bay State College’s online Healthcare Management program on the radio and decided to look into it.

“I was definitely apprehensive at first about enrolling,” says Alison. “Taking the first step was the most difficult part.  Meghan Block, the Associate Director of Online Admissions, eased my worries a bit and helped me believe I could really do this.”

Since enrolling in classes almost a year ago, Alison has had many successes in the virtual classroom, but the biggest change in her life came this summer when Alison and her husband welcomed a baby girl into the family.

“The convenience of the online program is more important now than ever before. When I get home from work, I want to spend time with my family, and this program allows me to do that.  I still have to make time for the school work once a day, but the flexibility allows me to prioritize.”

Her advice for anyone considering going back to school online?

“Honestly, stop thinking you’ll enroll ‘someday’ and just do it. Once you start, it just becomes part of your day to day life, and you’ll wonder why you waited so long.”

Thanks to Alison for taking the time to speak with us!
