Online Student Success - Andreina Reyes

We want to introduce you to the future Secretary of State, Andreina Reyes.  The Bay State College Criminal Justice student may have set her goals high, but she certainly has the personality and drive to meet them!

Andreina transferred to Bay State from a local community college.  Despite having success there, she knew she was capable of achieving more somewhere where her passion for Criminal Justice and drive to earn her degree would be given more direction. Bay State provided the roadmap she needed.

Initially, Andreina began taking classes online and was pleasantly surprised with how much she enjoyed the online classroom dynamic.

“I was working full time, so the online program was my best option,” says Andreina. “There are so many resources available to you as an online student, and I developed relationships with the professors despite never having sat in the classroom with them.”

Over the past several months, Andreina’s Bay State College experience has evolved.  She transitioned to taking a hybrid approach (part online, part on-ground evening classes), and after graduating with an associate’s degree in May with the intention of continuing on to pursue her bachelor’s this fall, Andreina took part in the College’s annual Service Learning trip to Kingston, Jamaica.  She joined Criminal Justice Department Chair, Dr. William Morrissette and several other Criminal Justice students as they spent 3 weeks studying and traveling in Jamaica.  The experience, for her, was life changing.

“Not only did I get to learn about the justice system within another country, but I got a chance to build connections with other Bay State students and with Dr. Morrissette.  It was not a glamorous trip, but it was by far the best decision I’ve made.” {Read more about the Service Learning trip here}
