Mid-year Goal Check - Are You There Yet?
January is typically the time of year we talk about setting goals and making resolutions; Go back to school, advance in your career, get better grades. We set out in the depths of winter on a path to reach these goals, and in the blink of an eye, it’s July. That can be exciting and terrifying at the same time depending on where you stand.
Have you reached your goals already? Do you still have a ways to go? This is the perfect time to assess where you’re at.
A review does not have to be painful. Sit down and look at the goals you wanted to accomplish this year. Did you write down your objectives? If not, do it now. The act of writing goals down makes them tangible and helps to maintain your focus.
Take on a small action every day. Each goal should have tangible steps or tactics associated with it — even soft measures are good for moving you forward.
If you didn't come up with any personal goals, you can always start now. Setting goals and having a personal purpose is important, not only for your academic and career development, but also for your well-being and your happiness.
And don’t forget to share your struggles and your success. Ask for help when you need it. Are you going to stumble along the way? Maybe so. But if you have the right goal, attitude, and tools, you’ll get there well before it’s time to make your resolutions for next year.
"You are never too old to set another goal or to dream a new dream." - C. S. Lewis
