With Thanksgiving Break over and final exams just around the corner, it's easy for students at Bay State to feel overwhelmed with their classes and assignments. But the holiday season is upon us, so make sure to take time in between study sessions to get out and enjoy all the festivities Boston has to offer. To help jumpstart your holiday itinerary, here are a few inexpensive and free ideas of what to do in Boston in December.

ELF The Musical

Boch Center Wang Theatre- December 7th at 6:15pm

"ELF The Musical is the hilarious tale of Buddy, a young orphan child who mistakenly crawls into Santa’s bag of gifts and is transported back to the North Pole. Unaware that he is actually human, Buddy’s enormous size and poor toy-making abilities cause him to face the truth. With Santa’s permission, Buddy embarks on a journey to New York City to find his birth father, discover his true identity, and help New York remember the true meaning of Christmas. This modern-day Christmas classic is sure to make everyone embrace their inner ELF." -Boch Center

The Office of Student Involvement and Leadership is inviting all students to sign up to go see ELF The Musical! Interested in attending? All students who wish to sign up can visit the office to reserve their spot with a refundable $5 deposit! There are limited spaces available, so sign up today!

Ice Skating

Boston Common & City Hall Plaza

The Boston Common Frog Pond is a winter destination for all Boston residents and visitors alike. Grab your skates and a friend or two and enjoy public skating every day starting at 10:00.

City Hall Plaza also has public skating daily, but what's really special about this one-of-a-kind rink are the possibilities that await once you get off the ice. Boston Winter presented by Berkshire Bank aims to make City Hall Plaza a more vibrant and welcoming space for all who go there. Through December 31st, enjoy a holiday market comprised of an array of vendors, live performances, and so many other never-before-experienced attractions.

Holiday Strolls

Beacon Hill- December 7th at 6pm & North End- December 1st at 6pm

In a shopping mood? You're in luck! The deals don't stop after Black Friday here in Boston. On December 1st, head to the North End for the Buon Natale Holiday Stroll, where you can pick up a shopping passport, make your way to all 15 participating locations, and be entered for a chance to win a beautiful gift package; AND you can get some shopping done while you're out and about!

If you're still in the mood for a little strolling and perusing, Beacon Hill hosts their very own holiday stroll on the 7th. Charles Street is completely shut down to traffic to allow shoppers to freely roam between the eclectic boutiques and galleries. Free horse and buggy rides, delicious snacks, Victorian carolers, a brass band, and a tree lighting at 7pm all await you!

Blink! Light and Sound Show

Faneuil Hall- Every half-hour at 4:30pm all month long

Missed the tree lightings of late November? No worries! Faneuil Hall continues the tradition of having the largest Christmas tree in New England (85 feet tall) and every half hour you can watch it come to life with the most spectacular presentation of lights and synchronized Christmas music Boston has ever witnessed. Blink! is a must-see for everyone!

Happy holidays to all! Make sure to study hard, but don't forget to go out and explore all the traditions and entertainment Boston has to offer this holiday season.
