Health Studies Alumni Success - Lindsay P.
We didn’t have to go far to visit Health Studies graduate, Lindsay Pierre. In fact, visiting the 2013 grad was a quick trip around the corner to Diamond Chiropractic on Clarendon Street.
If you asked Lindsay what she wanted her career to be a few years ago, she might not have been able to give you an answer. After graduating high school, she attended a local community college, but knew that it wasn’t where she needed to be.
“I was attending classes with no end goal,” she says. “I had no idea what I wanted to be and I felt like I needed more direction than that.”
After some research, Lindsay found Bay State’s Health Studies program, and with the guidance of admissions and financial aid, she transferred credits over and began on her path towards a career.
Towards the end of her senior year, Lindsay was approached by Tom Corrigan, Director of Career Services, about the Office Manager position opening up at Diamond Chiropractic. Tom helped her perfect her resume and cover letter, and she was called in for an interview and eventually landed the job within weeks of graduating.
Though a small office, Lindsay manages the clients and schedules for three different chiropractors at Diamond Chiropractic. Working as the Office Manager of a private practice means she needs to understand both the business and healthcare side of the industry.
“I’ve really taken so much knowledge from my classes at Bay State and applied it to my day to day work,” she says. “When I first started here, it was the information from classes like ‘Introduction to Healthcare’ that were helpful, but now that I’m conversing with these healthcare professionals every day, I’m grateful for classes like ‘Pharmacology’; something I never thought I would say.”
