WHAT DOES A SOUND TECHNICIAN DO?

A sound technician, often referred to as an audio engineer, works directly with the activities relating to production, amplification, or enhancement of sounds. One of the primary goals of the sound technician is to make sure all of the microphones, amplifiers, and any other sources of audio pick up or produce sounds in a clear and balanced manner.

WHAT ARE THE EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS?

Most sound engineers have received training at vocational schools, community colleges or 4-year colleges and universities. Programs, such as a degree in Entertainment Management with a concentration in audio production will provide the right training in sound engineering.

JOB SKILLS AND REQUIREMENTS

Sound engineers/technicians must be electronically proficient and able to fix equipment if a malfunction arises during a recording or live event. A sound technician should also have strong interpersonal skills and be able to take direction from superiors, producers and other members of a performance crew.
