Today’s unemployment rates are low across all industries—3.9% nationwide as of May 2018. But did you know that the stats for registered nurses (RNs) are even more impressive?
According to US News and World Report, the unemployment rate for nurses is a staggering 1.2%—with a median yearly pay of $68,450.
Due to a lack of trained nurses, an increase in baby boomers who require more medical care, and the impending retirement of many nurses, job prospects for nurses look strong for the future. The Bureau of Labor Statistics estimates that job growth for nursing should be about 15% from 2016 to 2026—a significantly greater rate of increase than that of most other professions.

How do you become a nurse? There are different levels of nursing certification, but a great way to start is by entering an Associate’s Degree in nursing (ADN) program. This is typically a five-semester program, after which you take an exam known as the NCLEX—the National Council Licensure Examination.
Once you pass the NCLEX, you are licensed as a registered nurse (RN) and can practice nursing anywhere in the United States.
