Bay State College Emphasizes Professional Readiness Score in Career-Focused Curriculum

In the past several years, Bay State College has taken its reputation as a career-focused college to a new level.  In addition to receiving grades for their coursework, Bay State College students have been given a Professional Readiness grade that is meant to determine how prepared they are to enter the workforce.

The College believes that measures of professional behaviors are an essential component of every student’s overall college performance assessment. Derived in accordance with Bay State College’s core values of quality, respect and support, the five measures that constitute the Professional Readiness score are aimed at evaluating student preparedness for entering the workforce as mature, dependable team players.  The standard includes measures such as attendance, punctuality, meeting deadlines, class participation, professional presentation of work, and professional behavior.

All Professional Readiness scores on file for each student are tabulated at the end of every semester prior to a scheduled internship. The score, when shared with a prospective employer, provides additional insight into the potential of Bay State graduates in their new careers. And so far the grade seems to be working. For the past several years, the College has boasted impressive in and related field placement rates.

 “Education is one of the biggest investments most people will make in their life,” says Dr. William Carroll, Vice President of Academic Affairs. “We want to make sure our students are not only given the academic support they need to make their investment worthwhile, but we want to ensure they are taught the soft skills that turn them into valued employees, the ultimate end goal.”
