Alumni Feature (Class of 1995) - Connecting on LinkedIN

For better or worse, social media has changed the way we live, do business and connect with each other.  As a college, the beauty of social media is not only that we get to engage with our students and community in a more authentic and real-time way, but we also get to connect with our alumni from the past (almost) 70 years.

For instance, we recently connected with Bay State College Medical Assisting alumna, Colleen Lang (Class of 1995) on LinkedIN.   After graduating from Bay State College, Colleen was hired as a Medical Assistant at Compass Medical on the south shore and worked there for 15 years before pursuing other opportunities within the company.

Colleen’s story falls in line with something we talk a lot about here at Bay State – career mobility.  Gone are the days when people took positions and spent their whole careers doing the same thing.  In fact, programs and curriculums are now being built recognizing this fact.

In Colleen’s instance, a position opened up in the Compass Medical Compliance Department and after 15 years of patient care, she was ready for a new and exciting challenge.

“I find my job very rewarding and interesting,” says Colleen.  “After 15 years in a clinical role I felt the need for a change and the Compliance Department was calling my name.  I made the change in November of 2010, and I enjoy my position as much as I did 5 years ago.”

In her new role as Compliance Specialist, Colleen handles concerns regarding HIPAA and assists with the creating of policies and procedures as well as their enforcement.  The position allows her to take a high level look at the company and really affect change.

We’re thrilled that we got to re-connect with Colleen and would love to hear what other alums are up to. So let’s hear it Bay State College alumni – where have your career paths taken you?
