Choosing the perfect school is hard. With so many options, it can be overwhelming for any student, whether you are just coming out of high school or returning for a new degree. Attending an Open House is an ideal way to find out everything you want to know about a school. You'll tour the campus, have opportunities to meet with faculty, learn about academic programs and attend special sessions designed to guide you through the admission and financial aid processes.

Think of an Open House like a test drive. You wouldn’t buy a new luxury car without seeing how it handles, right? Even if you have a pretty good idea of what school you want to attend, here are 5 reasons to register for an Open House.

1. Meet Your Peers and Professors

Start to get to know who you will be living and learning with. Future classmates, lab partners and friends will all be attending Open House. Use this opportunity to get a sense of who will be alongside you for your college journey.

Plus, meet the professors who will be teaching your courses. Chat with the program chairs and get a feel for their teaching style. Ask them about their experience in the business, they will be the ones to help guide you through your first interview!

2. Explore Potential Career Paths

Not sure what you want to do once you earn your degree? Faculty representing all the programs offered will be on hand ready to answer any questions you may have. Bay State College’s professors all have field experience and can tell you a bit about their own background and careers for some inspiration.

Want to know about life after college? The Career Services staff can help you get an idea for how they help students draft resumes, cover letters and land internships.

3. Taste Campus Life

Tour the campus and your future home. You should certainly check out the library, the student centers and any other place on campus you would frequent as well. Rather than taking a virtual tour online, you’ll have a more accurate representation of the campus and get a feel for the school to determine whether or not you will be happy in and out of the classroom. Student Life and campus clubs usually have a table set up to talk about all the ways you can get involved on campus.

Back Bay is Bay State College’s campus quad. We encourage students to tour the classrooms but also get a sense of the city that will be their backyard and study quarters.

4. Meet with Financial Aid

Applying for financial aid can seem daunting. That’s why most colleges have financial aid representatives at their Open House to have face to face conversations with prospective students to talk about their options. Plus, if you bring mom and dad with you to Open House, everyone will become a little more knowledgeable.

5. Apply

After attending did you realize the school is perfect for you? The admissions team is floating around at Open House and will help you fill out an application if you haven’t done so already!

Keep an open mind and ask as many questions as possible at an Open House. The faculty, staff and students are all here to help you during the college admissions process. If you can’t make the Open House date, schedule a campus visit at your convenience for an informative tour.
