Domestic and International Security Program Overview

New approaches in security and law enforcement are urgently needed, so that our country's citizens as well as critical systems and information are protected. Bay State College addresses this need at its source, training professionals to understand the complex challenges we face in these areas and seeking new ways of elevating and managing security and law enforcement measures:

• Learn from professors with real world, professional experience in the Criminal Justice field.
• Gain a greater insight into the vital areas of modern security and law enforcement: international justice and human rights, white collar and cyber crime, physical and personnel security, national security and intelligence investigations, homeland security, disaster management and emergency response, and comparative criminal justice.
• Get hands-on experience with 2 or more required Criminal Justice internships.
• Join the Justice Society, a student-run organization dedicated to the promotion of advocacy and charity.
• Choose to participate in the Inside Out Prison Exchange Program, which brings together "inside" (incarcerated) students and "outside" students for a semester-long course in a local prison setting.
• Seamlessly continue your education with Bay State College's partnership with the Salve Regina University M.S. in Administration of Justice and Homeland Security program.

Domestic and International Security Program Mission

The Criminal Justice Program provides an integrated course of study in science and humanities in order to prepare students for this complex and rapidly changing field. The Program provides inter-disciplinary course work which fosters critical thinking, humanistic reflection, and the ability to innovate. This program will prepare students to enter a wide array of criminal justice fields or graduate study. 

Domestic and International Security Program Learning Outcomes

Upon completion of the Bay State College Baccalaureate of Science in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Domestic and International Security, students will: 

1. Understand the origins and historical development of the field of security as well as the fundamental principles of physical, personnel, information, industrial, national and homeland security. 
2. Be familiar with the major theories surrounding approaches to physical and personnel security and be able to adapt these approaches to organizational, state, national and global contexts. 
3. Be familiar with the historical development of homeland security and changes to the field post 9/11 as well as how this discipline intersects and interacts with emergency response and national security goals, practice and initiatives. 
4. Be familiar with major theories relative to cyber and white collar crime and how these crimes are manifested by way of new technologies.  
5. Understand the origins and historical development of national security theory and practice as well as the makeup and responsibilities of the U.S. Intelligence Community.  Additionally, students will become familiar with the field of counter-intelligence and the conduct of intelligence investigations. 
6. Be able to compare and contrast the various criminal justice systems present internationally and how those systems coordinate their efforts to secure international justice outcomes. 
7. Be able to articulate a comprehensive understanding of human rights issues, most especially genocide and crimes against humanity and how these human rights violations impact national security policy and security threats domestically and abroad.
