Jessica M.
Entertainment Management Student
“If you want a college where your professors know your name, this is the school for you. If you want a college where those professors care about your success in the future, this is the school for you. They’ll prepare you – the rest is up to you.”
Originally from the fishing community of Gloucester, MA, Jessica M. discovered her singing voice at a young age. Her voice coach (also coach to the legendary Steven Tyler & Courtney Love) helped her discover her love for the music industry on stage and behind the scenes. Jessica began her senior year of high school fully intending on going to school for musical theater and vocal performance.
“I happened to stop by the Bay State College table they had set up at my school,” remembers Jessica. “It wasn’t until then that I realized I could go to school for something in the entertainment industry other than singing. I knew that I loved to sing, but I wanted to go to college for the academics- I wanted to learn.”
Within a month, Jessica had visited, applied, and been accepted to Bay State and had decided that it was definitely the college for her. After first semester, she knew she had made the right decision.
“It was exciting to be going to college in the middle of Boston, but comforting to know we still had the support and personal attention of a small school,” says Jessica.
She has spent her time at Bay State getting involved and getting experience. As Booking Agent at The Spot, Bay State’s student run studio space, Jessica has been able to book acts from all over the country. This experience behind the scenes has been invaluable as Jessica sees herself doing something similar down the road.
When asked what was her favorite part of the program, she spoke about the real world experience that the professors bring to the classroom every day. The Entertainment Management professors have stories to tell and advice to give that get students excited for what their futures have to offer. At the same time, they know there is only so much you can learn in a classroom – you need to get out there and get the experience for yourself. Jessica M. is a shining example of that.
