“The admissions representatives at Bay State really walk you through the process and make everything easy to understand.”
Even as a high school student, Fashion Merchandising major, Abby Theberge knew she wanted to study fashion in college. She thought she would end up in New York City, and was even accepted to the Fashion Institute and LIM College in Manhattan.
Abby was the first one in her family to head off to college out of state and despite being accepted to two big NYC schools, she felt there was still something missing – support through the admissions process. When she met with Bay State College, she found that support.
“I had experiences at other colleges where they asked me for a large deposit before I felt like I had all of the facts,” says Abby. “The counselors at Bay State really walk you through the process and make everything easy to understand.”
The support she received through the admissions process continued into the Fashion Merchandising program. Abby describes the program as “one big family” and explains how even when schoolwork and life get chaotic, her faculty advisor is always there to tell her things are going to be OK.
The program has allowed Abby to work with professors who have years of experience in the industry. As she heads into her junior year, her professors have also helped Abby narrow down her interests in the world of fashion. “I love being able to think creatively but also business-like,” she says. “I would love to be able to work in retail visuals – maybe travel around and open up stores.”
Abby’s coursework in visual merchandising, textiles, and retail management will give her a great foundation for when she takes on her first internship next spring.
