Meet the Staff
Head Coach of Esports - Matthew King
Matthew King has joined Bay State as the first Esports Head Coach. Matthew has been busy over the last few months, selecting and designing the on-campus competition space, recruiting student athletes, and promoting the program to the community at-large.
In addition to being a skilled player, Coach King brings extensive experience in creating and managing esports teams at both the collegiate and semi-pro level. Some highlights of his career include time as a manager and coach for Octagon 7, a semi-pro League of Legends team; the Head Esports Coach at the University of Pikeville in Kentucky; and as an esports consultant for Stephen F. Austin State University in Texas. His experience spans some of the largest and most popular esports games, including League of Legends, Fortnite, Overwatch, Smite, Hearthstone, and World of Warcraft (WoW).
Assistant Coach of Esports - Max Martin
With a degree in Exercise and Health Sciences, and a background in Personal Training, Max brings a unique approach to coaching an esports team. A Massachusetts native, he grew up playing video games and brings his passion to help our students become better athletes and students. He has completed stints in AmeriCorps NCCC and City Year, where he traveled the country completing multiple community service projects with such organizations as Habitat for Humanity and the Boys and Girls Club, The skills he has gained throughout these experiences will make him a valuable part of the Bay State College family!
