Office of Disability Support Services

Bay State College is mandated by Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990 to provide reasonable accommodations. Bay State College is committed to providing individualized support to students with disabilities based on their unique needs. To fulfill this mission, Disability Support Services Coordinators (DSS Coordinators) work with students who have documented disabilities to ensure equal educational access.

Accessing Accommodations

The Office of Disability Support Services supports the mission of Bay State College by providing services that afford students with disabilities an equal opportunity to access all aspects of our College's educational environment.

DSS Coordinators encourage students to take responsibility for their own academic careers, to learn about themselves and their peers, and to appreciate and explore their considerable abilities. Ultimately, DSS Coordinators seek to foster student independence and self-advocacy.  To this end, the Office of Disability Support Services collaborates with students, faculty, and staff to create a campus which is dedicated to helping students with disabilities accomplish their scholastic, career, and personal goals.

Bay State College determines eligibility for accommodations on a case-by-case basis, taking into account the needs of the student and the academic standards of the College.  Students are encouraged to schedule a meeting with the appropriate DSS Coordinator to discuss access to accommodations as soon as possible after registering for classes to ensure the timely provision of support.

Confidentiality

At Bay State College, we care about protecting our students' privacy.  We believe that a student's right to confidentiality is the basis for an effective working relationship.  All interactions related to Disability Support Services are confidential and will not be released to anyone outside of the Office of Disability Support Services, unless a student has given written authorization to disclose information.  We are required, however, to take appropriate action if a student engages in behavior that presents clear and imminent danger to their self or others.
