From DECA with Love

April 11, 2011

On Thursday, April, 7, 2011, Bay State Collegiate DECA members, Kamia Grey-Anderson, Kate Camarda, Ossie Latham, and Milton Guardado delivered a gift basket of donations to Rosie’s Place.

Rosie’s Place is a shelter for women who have been in troubling situations and are beginning to turn their lives around. The shelter offers them a place to sleep, freshen up, and get a well cooked meal. Rosie’s Place has a strong reputation of helping women maintain their dignity and establish a better life.

“This is the second consecutive year DECA has selected Rosie’s,” said Elena Swain, advisor of DECA’s Bay State College chapter. “The staff told the students that they were the first college to support Rosie’s Place. They were surprised and immediately felt a special connection with the shelter. The decision to do it again this year was easy.”

The project was co-chaired by Kate Camarda and Kamia Grey-Anderson. Donations included: shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, toothbrushes, and other personal items as well as two checks totaling $150. Staff members at the shelter were grateful and appreciated DECA’s donation. If you would like to make a personal donation, Rosie’s is located in Roxbury on 889 Harrison Avenue. They accept cash, food, and clothing.
