Bay State College Students Present “The Next Chapter”

Bay State College Celebrates Student Accomplishments at Annual Fashion Show

BOSTON, Mass., May 1, 2018 – Fashion design and merchandising students will close the book on a successful year at Bay State College at their annual fashion show on Thursday, May 3, 2018. In line with the theme for this year – ‘The Next Chapter' - the event will take place at The Boston Public Library at 7:30 p.m. in front of 180 family members, friends and fashion industry leaders.

Sixteen student designers will share their collections containing four to 10 looks inspired by personal experiences and a range of themes including Old Hollywood, the circus, the city, good versus evil and burlesque. Professional and student models will hit the runway highlighting the 80+ original designs.

“These collections showcase years of study, hard work and personal inspirations of Bay State College fashion students,” says Lise Stahl Brown, Senior Collections professor and design student advisor. “Each design is a true, original work of art created by young minds whose fresh ideas and new perspectives are about to hit the fashion world. It’s exciting to see them all on the runway at once.”

The fashion show is the largest project for fashion students each year. Students begin working on initial concepts in the fall, conducting research and making mockups before choosing fabric and color schemes and creating sketches. In the spring, the concepts come to life through construction of the garments.

"I am beyond excited to show my collection and to tell my story," said senior Rachel Collins, who will graduate in May with a Bachelor of Science in Fashion Merchandising with a concentration in Fashion Design. Collins is showcasing seven of her designs at the event. "I've worked very hard to be where I am today. Each garment is very special to me; I hope that when people see my collection, they will understand the story behind my detailed work and leave with their hearts, eyes and minds open about mental health."

This year marks the first time Bay State College will graduate a class of four-year fashion students. Bay State College entertainment management and audio production students will assist with sound, lighting and social media promotions for the show. Hair and makeup will be provided by Haus of Threes.
